Apple deleting mentions of Consumer Reports’ iPhone 4 piece on forums, can’t delete your thoughts
…or can they? In case Apple has somehow managed to perfect the art of selective disremembrance across a wide population, here’s a refresher: Consumer Reports has thrown down the gauntlet, stating that it “can’t recommend” the iPhone 4 until the antenna issues are fixed, issues that its labs and ours have verified...

Apple’s A4 SoC faces Qualcomm Snapdragon in knock-down-drag-out benchmarking test
Up until now, a shroud of mystery has surrounded Apple’s custom engineered A4 system-on-chip ; we know it’s clocked at 1GHz, likely tied to Apple’s prior acquisition of P.A. Semi and manufactured by Samsung. Outside of that, the only other knowledge we’ve gained has come not from the mouth of Cupertino, but from the extracting...

Palm’s SVP of software and services takes off, others (including CFO) given cash to stick around
No one really knows exactly what’s going on inside the walls of Palm HQ this week — whether the company will sink or swim is perhaps a bigger question right now than it has been since its rebirth last year, and if it does swim, whether it remains independent is another matter altogether. In an SEC filing today, Palm quietly revealed...

Carmack blows minds with id Software’s Rage, running on iPhone at 60fps with ‘megatextured’ graphics (video)
We’re sorry, but the Palm Pixi’s rendition of Need for Speed no longer impresses us — we’ve just seen John Carmack show off Rage for iPhone. While of course it looks nothing like the PC graphical monstrosity that swept the E3 Games Critics Awards, it’s safe to say the 60 frame-per-second tech demo at QuakeCon 2010...

HTC Vision with Android, full QWERTY in the wild?
For reasons seemingly known only to Peter Chou himself, HTC has mostly steered clear of producing high-quality physical QWERTY devices running Android, despite the fact that there might be no phone manufacturer in the world more skilled at making them (let us remind you of the Touch Pro2 , among many others dating back the better part of a decade)....

Apple: iPhone 4 reception problems a software issue, fix coming in ‘a few weeks’
Whoa, Apple just admitted that there’s an issue with the iPhone 4’s reception, but it might not be what you think: Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should...

Foxit kills off eSlick ebook reader, focuses on licensing software instead
It’s hard out there for a dedicated e-reader these days, and it looks like Foxit has now found that out first hand. The company has just announced that it’s killing off its eSlick e-reader, and says that it will instead focus on licensing its ebook software to other companies — it notes it won’t do both to avoid competing...

Zune software references rumored Project Pink devices, a video upload service?
We weren’t sure things could get any more interesting with Microsoft’s mobile rumor mill, but along comes Zune Boards with some tantalizing findings in the latest Zune software update. First up is the eEndpointFamily files, which lists all the compatible hardware — ZuneHD, for example. Also found, however, were entries for “PmxPure”...

Flash Player "Gala" brings hardware decoding support to Mac OS X
Even amidst all their fighting, it appears Apple and Adobe can manage to lay down arms and work together every once in a while: Apple just enabled low-level access to NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, 320M and GT 330M H.264 GPU hardware in Mac OS X 10.6.3, and Adobe’s followed up six days later with a new preview version of Flash Player code-named “Gala”...
