Already feeling the pinch of a mere 25GB per layer on a Blu-ray disc? Neither are we, but it looks like Sony and Panasonic have been busily working on ways to boost capacity nonetheless, and they’ve now devised a new method that seems to be on the fast track to becoming a standard. HD News: Google's Open Source Codec...Serious Sam will be in HD with The Second Encounter, available on Steam. Google has bought On2, which gives them the rights to the VP8 codec, which they plan to open source to power HTML5 video, possibly paving the way for a free and open standard for online video.
