Video: elaborate multi-camera rig elegantly captures giant redwood tree

October 2nd, 2009 admin

For anyone who’s taken a cruise down the Avenue of the Giants or went looking for Stormtroopers within Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park, you’re apt to feel a great deal of appreciation for the image just after the break. Michael Nichols, a National Geographic photographer, rigged up a ridiculous camera setup that was strategically lowered from the top of a 300-foot tree to the ground in order to get an astoundingly tall (and downright breathtaking) shot. Oh, and while you’re gawking at the pixels down there, feel free to mash play on that video to see how it all came together. [Via Hack A Day ] Continue reading Video: elaborate multi-camera rig …

We like robots that play soccer , safe wildlife , and clean our stuff . We’re not, however, particularly fond of robots who look like extras in horror movies. Such are M3-Kindy and Noby, a pair of bots recently shown at the JST Erato Asada Project symposium in Japan, both designed to study human development by basically pretending to be...

Exemode SQ28m Pocket Digital Camera fits on a keychain, takes charmgingly low-quality footage (video)
The Flip Video may be pocket-sized and ludicrously easy to use, but it’s got nothing on Exemode’s SQ28m Pocket Digital Camera when it comes to charm. This thing is small enough to fit on a keychain and, though the footage is recorded at a mere 320 x 240 and 8fps without audio, the inclusion of a number of color filters make results...

iPod touch with 2 megapixel camera leaked in Vietnam (video)
Guess who has another Apple scoop? Tinhte , the upstarts from Vietnam have first pics of an iPod touch with a camera on the back. The “DVT-1″ stamp on the back makes it clear that this is a first model design verification test unit on the way to production testing. In other words, this might not be the final design whenever chooses...

Garmin nuvi 295W like a bolt from the blue, bearing email, camera and WiFi (video)
Ever heard of the Garmin nuvi 295W? Neither had we, until the GPS showed up spontaneously on Amazon. More Garminfone than PND , the device features the same 3.5-inch touchscreen, 3 megapixel camera and Garmin UI as its call-friendly counterpart, but without the front buttons, 3G data connection and subsidized price . That means you’ll have...

Multi-Tab concept elevates power strips to an art form
We’ve seen plenty products both real and imagined that promise to improve on the standard power strip , but few as elegantly designed as this so-called “Multi-Tab” concept from designer Soon Mo Kang. Not only is it modular to accommodate as many plugs as you need, but each module also has its own release mechanism to eject the...

Samsung ST5500 WiFi camera hits the FCC
Samsung’s fast making a name for itself as a company that throws more than the basics into into its point-and-shoots, and it looks to be continuing the trend with its new ST5500 camera, which just recently cleared the FCC. Judging from the specs, this one certainly looks to have things covered on the picture-taking front, with it packing...

RED says EPIC camera is back on track, Scarlet to follow before end of 2010
RED may have shown off a working EPIC camera at NAB back in April, but a serious bug has prevented the camera from actually going into production — to the point which RED founder Jim Jannard himself says that they’re not just behind schedule anymore, they are “embarrassingly late.” He now says that the company has managed...

Fujifilm’s durable, dunkable FinePix XP10 compact camera gets a review
It’s always hard to justify spending extra for a waterproof camera that will do you good at the beach but deliver mediocre image quality everywhere else. Photography Blog has taken a look at Fujifilm’s new 12 megapixel FinePix XP10 waterproof shooter and, while it predictably falls short of DSLR-level quality (or even high-end compacts),...

PaPaLaB’s YC-3300 camera sees same colors as human eyes
We can’t say that we’ve ever heard of PaPaLaB, but all it takes to get on the consumer electronics radar is doing something that no one has ever done before. It’s one of those “easier said than done” things, we’re guessing. Anywho, the Japanese outfit has just rolled out a camera system that has been proven...

Optima OP5-E resurfaces with English OS, gets lengthy video review
By now, you’re sufficiently aware that the Optima OP5-E is the first non-Nokia MID to arrive with a Maemo-based operating system. In fact, you’ve already seen what this bugger looks like on video . What you probably haven’t seen, however, is a finalized version of the handheld for the US market, but all that’s about to...
